How to Decolonize- Step 2

This is a biggie, but I am going to make every attempt to keep it relatively short and sweet.

You are going to have a very hard time every enjoying true health, happiness, and balance, if you believe sex is profane, dirty, and a sin.

Why is that? Look around.

Sex is everywhere. Sex is the source of all life. Sexual energy IS creative energy, and this force, this energy, is a part of everything. There is no divide between the energy used to run a marathon or create a work of art, and that used to bring forth orgasmic bliss. Thus, EVERYTHING IS SEX. We are all here because of sex. Every plant, tree, flower, animal, is directly a product of sexual expression and the union between male and female. It is truly, a beautiful thing…

Healing past sexual trauma, awakening the body and the spirits’ ability to absorb and generate mind-boggling amounts of sexual pleasure, and reclaiming a healthy sexuality and sexual sovereignty are all passions of mine, (so much so that I actually became a certified Tantra Instructor!). Not only do I believe doing these things for the self and for others is a radical step in self-care, self-love, and decolonization, but I truly believe that reframing our attitudes towards sex has the ability to save the world. I’m serious.

Here is an expert from my newest book, “How to F-ck Like a Goddess”, which will be released March 2019:

Sex. It is all around us. It is the reason each of us are

here and a driving force behind much of what we do and how

we behave. There is no denying it’s presence or its potency.

Yet for so many people, sex remains a hugely misunderstood

and complicated concept.

In our modern Western culture, sex is often used to sell,

to shame, to entice, and to manipulate. Flip on any television

program, watch any commercial, glance at the front of the

magazines in the grocery check out line, and you will see that

this is true.

In addition, most Western religions teach that sex is

sinful, something to be ashamed or embarrassed of, and

something you may even be punished for, for all eternity, in the

after life! Talk about confusing. On one hand we are being told

that we need to be sexual dynamos, always ready and able to

please our partners, and looking like societies ideal of the

ultimate man/woman while doing so, and on the other, it has

most likely been ingrained in us from a very young age that

sex and sexuality is bad. A no-no. We are taught to temper

and repress our budding sexuality, to cover it up and rise

above it, yet in the next breath we are told to be tantalizing

sex kittens who can fulfill any partners fantasies at the drop of

the hat.

There are also glaring double standards about sexuality

when it comes to men and women, and these falsehoods are

damaging to males and females alike.

Rarely in our culture is sex given the honor or respect it deserves;

that of a creative and expressive life force, capable of

soothing, healing, and even bringing enlightenment and

spiritual bliss to the conscious practitioner. Rarely is it

recognized as the divine gift and path to endless joy and bliss

that it is.

An individual who is cut off from their sexuality is cut off

from the joy and juiciness of life. They are living a half life. One

lacking in pleasure and sensuality. They can be having sex

every night, every day of the week, but chances are, if it is the

conventional, distracted, goal oriented and friction based form

of intercourse, they are going to be left feeling unfulfilled, as

though something is missing. And indeed it is….

What does all of this have to do with decolonization? Because the colonizers brought with them not just greed and dehumanization-driven violence, but rape. Prior to the arrival of white settlers, rape was unheard of and incomprehensible to the First People, until they experienced it first hand by the foreign invaders. So unthinkable was this devastating act, that it was reported a group of Native hunters could not wrap their heads around it’s reality when they stumbled upon the naked and violated bodies of two indigenous girls they discovered in the woods, surrounded by the boot-prints of a gang of white terrorists. In fact, many tribes held the belief which can be summed up in a well-known Cherokee proverb stating that: “A woman’s highest calling is to lead a man to his soul, so as to unite him with Source. A man’s highest calling is to protect woman, so she is free to walk the earth unharmed.”

European settlers brought something else with them as well: A religion that under no uncertain terms stated that sex was a profane act. Dirty and sinful. (Unless of course you were raping heathens and savages, whom everyone knows are agents of the devil and have no soul. *insert eye roll here* because the enduring hypocrisy of religious fanatics would be laughable if it were not so globally devastating and…dare I say—evil).

Any people, of any color, creed, or culture, living close to the land, in intimate communication with Nature, and harmony with her variety of life forms, knows that far from sinful, sex is the source of all life. It is the foundation of all nature, and arguably the most powerful source of healing and magic(k). You cannot escape it. You are born of it. Step outside, especially during the spring and summer months, and you would need to be blind to not see it (hhmmmmm. WAKE UP!). Birds, dogs, flies, lizards, they all get busy right under our noses! Sex makes the world go round. And (when done right), it feels aaaahhhmazing. Great sex is a human right. Or at least it should be.

When Jesus said sex outside of marriage was a sin, we must remember that this statement was made in a time and place far different than our modern world. We need to remember that people lived and spoke much differently than they do now. For example, children of both sexes were often married off as soon as they reached puberty, around the ages of 13-14. Therefore, sex before marriage really wasn’t that much of an issue. Many people, prior to marriage, were just too damn busy being children. Also, Jesus was a mystic. Mystics have a long, rich history of speaking in codes, riddles, and metaphors. In my life experience, I have observed that the masses of religious people tend to make the grave mistake of trying to interpret their sacred texts in a literal fashion. When Jesus spoke of sex and marriage, he was referring not to the man-made business contract of marriage, which essentially made the woman property of the man, (the word ‘Husband’ comes from Old English/ Old Norse húsbóndi , meaning {male} ’master of a house,’ from hús ‘house’ + bóndi ‘occupier and tiller of the soil.’ The original sense of the verb was ‘till, cultivate’, and it was essentially the husbands job to farm, i.e. till/cultivate, and seed his wife), but to the divine union of male and female energies; The Holy Wedding. There is so much more to divine union that swearing oaths of undying, unquestioning obedience….

So I would like to be clear, it is not the teachings of Jesus Christ I am opposed to. Far from it. It is the institution of western religion, the perversion of his Gospel into a tool used to control and manipulate the masses. To instill fear and dogma. To justify untold horrors and devastation against our brothers and sisters, our families, our tribes, and the children of God/dess. If your understanding of Jesus’ teachins gives you a low view of sex, then you have misunderstood him. Go and read the Old Testament, especially the Song of Songs if you need any encouragement to believe that God says sex is good! Great even.

And if you are serious about decolonizing your headspace and your life, take some time to honestly reflect on how to can go about reprogramming your mind so that it is able to be healed from the lies about one of your greatest personal powers (SEX) that it has been inundated with. Liberate yourself, and reap the hard earned rewards.

How to Decolonize- Step I, Part II:

So how do you go about actually changing your relationship to food? It requires a shift, a break from old patterns and a shattering of long held illusions. I never said it would be easy. I am saying it makes the reward that much sweeter…the fact is that nothing will change unless you change, which means consciously acting out of the norm when it comes to first thought, and then action. Constant awareness and vigilance lovers. These are skills well worth cultivating, (toss in some patience while you’re at it). Do not expect your situation/environment to change if you yourself are not willing to change. And we’re trying to decolonize and rewind here people! We need to learn to welcome and embrace change with arms wide open and in complete surrender. I hate to break it to you, but it’s sorta our last hope. While thats a bleak prognosis, it healing from the wounds of domestication does not have to be a harrowing or traumatic experience. It can be gentle, peaceful, organic. Grounded and rooted in love, the way Nature intends. So go easy on yourself and your neighbor, but be accountable and responsible for your actions and the the extent to which your energy affects the entire planet mmmkay. It is all connected. That’s one thing both science and spirituality agree on. We are all connected. All is one. experiment with the following suggestions as you see fit. More than anything, ask yourself how each idea feels to you, in theory and practice, which means making room to both enact the practice and reflect on the experience:

  1. Really understand what food IS. How magical and how powerful it is. This isn’t hard to do if you just take some time to meditate on it a bit, but you must have a willingness and desire to change your perspective. Food is MAGIC, plain and simple. All food comes from plants. Even if/when you eat meat, that meat you are eating is built on….plant food. What do deer eat? Bison? Cows? Plants. But what about animals that feed on other animals? Like bears, sharks, etc? They, like other predators, including us humans, feed on other animals that are alive because of the plant material they ingest. Thus, all diets, whether directly or indirectly, rely on plants.  At the heart of ALL food, is the plant. I would really like to hammer this idea home. What is a plant? A plant is a living being that has its own spirit and its own consciousness. Science is proving more and more every day that trees and plants are far more aware than westerners have been led to believe. (Don’t worry, if you have a hard time wrapping your head around this, I will be writing more on this subject in the near future as well as linking/listing my resources for those who like to see ‘facts’ from more reputable sources than myself ;))  A plant is both a metaphor and an expression. It is an expression of life and balance, built directly from the elements, requiring the right kind and the right amount of sun light (fire), water, earth, and air. The seed of every plant contains within it, an entire forest. All life begins with a seed, (remember “Fern Gully”?), and that seed must detach from its’ parent and ‘die’, literally undergoing a period of decomposition within the deep dark bowls of the earth, before re-emerging into the light as a new and transformed being. Then these amazing creations make filter our air, give us oxygen, regulate moisture and rainfall, and feed the entire web of life. They take sunlight and transform it into energy, for us. They are also the source of all health and medicine. Their healing properties have been know to perform miracles. And all of that is not even touching on the issue of psychedelics and what that brings to the table. But moving on…. Think about what eating really is: Taking another life forms body, be it plant or animal, and absorbing that life, that energy and essence into your own body, so that you may continue to live on this earth. Every time you eat understand that someone, somewhere, made the ultimate sacrifice for you. That is love. Food is love, (real food that is). You depend on the death of other beings to survive, no way around it. But once you face your fear of death and your own mortality, you realize what a beautiful and miraculous gift you have every time you sit down for a meal. You understand that you have the ability to heal yourself in every way, on every level, from the inside out, simply by understanding that everything about you is built upon the foundation of your food and what you are allow into your body. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT! I cannot stress this more….monika-grabkowska-358926-unsplash

2. Learn to Hunt/ Gather. This is the way humans were designed to eat, based on HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of years of evolution. You cannot totally break away from this fact over the course of a couple centuries and not expect some serious reproductions. Man does not know more than Nature, and try as he might, he never will. Get over it already.

Until quite recently in North American history, (some time around 1492 to be more precise. *cough* cough*).  Human beings, for the most part, (the exception being people located along the pacific coastline, where resources were so plentiful there was no reason to travel much), moved with the seasons and tended the land along the way. This was the way it was for thousands of years. And there was balance. But some folks came along, (damn immigrants!) and decided to utterly annihilate this culture and lifestyle and forced an entire continent of human-beings into captivity. Killed all the game, poisoned the water, forbade the hunt, (and the language/s), and forced them to farm the land, stealing and swindling what was harvested, and even making it illegal for people within an family or tribe to share land with each other. According to the new world order, it was every man for himself, and the white man was the law.

Despite what we may have learned in school, agriculture was not humanities holy grail. In fact, when you take a good hard, honest look at history, and the (steadily declining) state of the world and health of humanity since the dawn of the agricultural revolution, you will find exactly the opposite to be true. God didn’t kick us out of the garden, we walked out ourselves to become farmers, arrogantly thinking we could bend the environment to our will. HA! again, more on this later. I’m pretty sure popular consensus would be grinding its’ teeth reading this. Suffice it to say hunting and gathering is not only the lifestyle that is the healthiest for the land and all other non-human inhabitants, it’s actually what provides the most health benefits to us as individuals as well. And is a wonderfully sensual, eye-opening, pleasurable experience. But yes-it is a HUGE lifestyle change. I have a personal goal of one day being able to harvest ALL my food directly from the wild. I have such a long way to go, yet I can assure you I have not found a path more magical or over all soul-satisfying. Start with something small, like collecting wild dandelion, acorns, or blackberries. Start researching local foraging guides and if you eat meat, connect with a local hunter whose views and ethics you can stand behind. Do your research and be your own best advocate. This is a huge yet admirable quest.brigitte-tohm-351791-unsplash

3. Grow your own. If you can’t or won’t hunt and gather, consider trapping/gardening. Or at least gardening. Being able to grow your own food is hugely empowering and a huge step towards financial liberation. The more food you can produce directly on your property, the kinder you are being to our planet and your wallet. The less dependent you are on industrial agriculture which is steadily and unflinchingly killing our planet and the souls of her children. Even if you don’t own your own land or have a yard, there is tons (and I do mean tons) of food which can successfully be grown indoor. Start with the essential windowsill herb garden if your scared. You can do it! I believe in you!

4. Buy local and seasonal. The next best thing would be to find a person who does grown their own food at home and buy from them. While the idea of farming at all is still something I struggle with, there is no doubt that small scale local farmers are FAR less damaging to the environment than shopping at the big name grocery store conveniently located just down the road. The benefits are multidimensional, including everything from less fossil fuels being used to acquire it, your money going directly back into YOUR local economy and neighborhood, you getting to meet your neighbors and the people whom you share your ecosystem with, (who knows, you may even find yourself being sucked into some weird hippie community love circle or something. If it feels nice…..), and you will likely be receiving product that is far superior in flavor, (which equates to nutritional value. How convenient!), because the soil quality hasn’t been completely eradicated by over-tilling, improper or non-existant crop rotation, flooded by pesticides, and compromised via GMO’s. If the farmer has done her research and taken the time to restore and possibly enhance soil quality, and if she is growing using holistic permaculture practices, native flora, and incorporating foraging hubs for native wildlife, so much better! In addition, eating seasonally means you are both plugging your self directly into the cycle of Nature and The Wheel of the Year, AND fortifying your body with the nutrients needed to give your health the greatest boost during each successive season. You reworking WITH the Earth, rather than against it. Which any sane person can tell you is a futile effort and insane waste of energy.

5. Buy organic. Finally, if the above suggestions seem to out of reach, (and let me reiterate, they are all quite doable. Pretty much every community has a local CSA program. If everyone stopped shopping at the market and connected with their local farmers/hunters, what a beautiful world this would be!), you can start making the transition to living a healthier life by making sure you buy organic when and where-ever possible. Now please be careful here, as there are a few things to be aware of. Fist of all, the organic title is regulated by the FDA. Always keep one eye open and on the FDA. They are essentially bottom beesh for big name pharma. Contrary to what popular belief may be, I assure you their agenda is NOT protecting the health of US citizens. Plus, getting legally certified as organic is expensive. Extremely expensive. This means that many small farms and local growers simply cannot afford to call their produce organic. It reeks of economic oppression. Especially since organic food can be much more expensive to purchase than non-organic. Sometimes up to 3x more. So who gets to buy and eat this stuff hmmmm? Think about it. Who are the ones essentially forced to eat poison because they cannot afford to feed themselves and their families anything but the cheapest, (most toxic) food they can get their hands on. Yes, it’s a rhetorical question. clem-onojeghuo-97090-unsplash

That being said, if you in any way, shape, or form, CAN afford to buy organic, even if you have to cut back and make some sacrifices elsewhere in your life, even if you cringe a bit at the price tag on the $9 organic strawberries when the non-organic ones are on sale for $3.50, I respectful request that you buy organic, and do so gratefully and with full awareness of the privilege and abundance you have been blessed with. Why? Organic means that the produce was grown without the use of CHEMICAL pesticides and artificial fertilizers. But let’s be clear here: Many organic farmers use pesticides, and use them liberally. The organic title is concerned not with whether or not pesticides are used, (contrary to popular belief), but the origin of the pesticides used. This means that if the pesticides are deemed ‘natural’, they’re given the green light. And what is considered ‘natural’ and the amount which can safely be used is something that is constantly shifting by FDA standards, (likely due to who is footing the payroll), so BE AWARE. Oh and, strangely enough, the FDA does not track or regulate the amount of pesticides used on organic farms, where these pesticides are often used even more frequently than on conventional farm because they are usually less effective. And here we thought we were consuming pesticide free! Perhaps you should’ve taken the blue pill…

Furthermore, just because something was grown “Organic” doesn’t mean it was grown in a way that isn’t wreaking havoc on the environment. Organic labels don’t deal with issues such as soil quality, GMO’s, crop rotation, etc. Factory farming is factory farming, and the results are devastating whether or not the pesticides being used passed the FDA’s questionable criteria for the coveted ‘organic’ label or not. Again, its all about the money. Many farms are organic not because they care about your health or the health of the world, but because there is a demand for it, and they know they can charge a shit ton more by slapping the word organic on their label which prevent the average Joe from looking into it any further. Don’t be an average Joe. Don’t assume that because you are buying organic quinoa you are saving the world. Most likely, your not, you are simply perpetuating and participating in a broken system that is doomed to fail and take down many innocents along the way. Yet as we previously talked about, it it vitally important that we learn to vote with our dollars, and if we as consumers are consistently making it known via our purchasing power that reducing the amount of pesticides in food and taking care of Mother Earth is something we give a shit about, and our money says so, you’d better believe producers and policy makers are going to sit up and pay attention. We just need to make sure we are holding ourselves and our farms accountable, and not taking the easy way out by buying all organic and then turning a blind eye to the reality of the situation. You still need to do your research to find out exactly where your organic food is coming from and how it is grown. This way, you keep yourself from getting ripped off, and from being an ignorant American who’s lack of information and willingness to outsource all personal responsibility keep you blissfully unaware of the global harm you yourself are helping to perpetuate every time you buy a bunch of chiquita bananas.

6. Teach yourself to love cooking. This has been a struggle for me. Growing up, I saw cooking as a chore. It was an obligation, responsibility, and source of stress. This is of course due to personal family dynamics and not the nature of cooking itself, and this has been an area of continuous healing for me. patrick-browne-568830-unsplash

As a child, the last thing I wanted to do was help my mom in the kitchen. That was kinda like having to clean my room. I would have much rather gone outside to play or hidden away in a secluded spot to read. Honestly, I still harbor much of these sentiments. BUT- I have also learned to find joy and pleasure in cooking. Food is love. It is art. It is delicious. It is creative expression. It gives life, promotes healing, builds community. What’s not to like? Yes, it does take some know-how. There is a learning curve. Planning and preparation are required. It is time consuming. But remember how I talked about how wonderful and magical food is? Remember that it is your greatest opportunity to practice and infuse REAL magic into your day to day life and to reap instant and gratifying results? Hold onto that thought and enjoy the process. Stop valuing instant gratification and convenience over quality and creativity. If I can do it, if I can change my childhood programing from Cooking=drudgery/work to Cooking=art/sensual stimulation & creative expression, you can too. Trust me, my cooking basis runs deep. All it takes is the desire to grow and a willingness to change.

7. Eat for health AND pleasure. Never loose sight of why we’re here. Each person has their own opinion on this but I believe we are here to both restore the natural balance of this fleeting world, and to experience as much love, joy, and pleasure whilst doing so. This is LIFE! YOU are a miracle! This whole journey should be fun, exciting, awe-inspiring, and yes, expect some challenges. How boring would life be otherwise 😉

Changing your relationship to food does not mean you need to stop enjoying food or eat nothing but organic kale chips and green smoothies for the rest of your life. It means reconnecting to the source of life. To Nature herself, and taking that relationship to new and thrilling depths. You may find you develop a kind of love affair with food and cooking. I hope you do. Relationships that offer that much potential for healing and thriving health are hard to come by.

How To Decolonize- Step I, Part I:

This is HUGE.

And way easier said than done.

You have spent an entire lifetime enforcing your eating habits. From what you eat to how you eat.

Making changes in this area is going to be HARD. Breaking any habit is hard. CHANGING is hard. Yet it is so SO worth it. Plus, I can promise you, once you get over the initial hump of adjustment, the benefits waaaayyyyy outnumber any initial struggles you may face. What was difficult in the beginning is transformed to a wonderful and sensuous adventure as you learn to source, prepare, and thoroughly enjoy your food. You will look, feel, and BE so much healthier, happier, and connected to Nature. You will understand what it is to be reborn and to come alive again. I’m serious.

Before I dive into how to do this, let me answer the following: Why is food so important to decolonization? (And if you are wondering why I am passionate about the need to decolonize, you can read my essay on THAT topic by clicking here.)

#1) You cannot be a truly free/sovereign human being if you do not know how to eat properly. We need food to survive. Food is our life source. Without it, we die, and rather quickly. And when we eat fake, processed, chemically saturated food, we get sick, are miserable for awhile— and then die.

When we hand over the task of feeding ourselves and our families to outside sources, to massive corporations who care nothing about people, human rights, or the environment (the source of all real food and thus, THE SOURCE OF ALL LIFE), but only for profits and power, we literally hand over our freedom. When you let someone else be in control of your food, you let someone else be in control of YOU.

#2) You vote with your dollar. Money is what drives politics and our government. It should be quite obvious to you by now that politicians care nothing about creating a better world for all of us, but only about obtaining more money, power, and prestige for themselves. If the goal of politics/politicians was really to create a harmonious existence amongst humanity, we’ve given them plenty of time and free passes to figure it out and get their shit together.

Instead, politicians have continued to fail miserably, and proven themselves to be worse than incompetent.

If they had any integrity, they would either: A. Dismantle the system and start fresh, or B. At the very least take a good, hard, honest look at our political system and government structure- and give it the massive overhaul it so desperately needs. But they don’t, and here we stand.

We stand facing the cold hard truth that the government cares nothing for its people, and is concerned only with keeping wealth and power concentrated within a VERY small group of individuals who control the bulk of the worlds economic resources. These people follow the money. Where it goes, they will follow, with all the enthusiasm of a dog pressing its nose up against another dogs butthole during a first encounter.

If we as consumers demand that our products are clean, not filled with poisons and pesticides, wholesome, and sourced in ways that do not destroy the environment and oppress indigenous people, people of color or low economic status, if we take the time and the little effort that is required to really research our food and where it comes from, and then refuse to financially support all those companies who’s practices are killing our ecosystems and destroying our health and our planet (ONE AND THE SAME PEOPLE!!! ONE. AND. THE. SAME!), these same companies will be FORCED to immediately clean up their act. EVERY.DOLLAR. YOU SPEND. COUNTS. Who you hand your money over to makes WAAAAYYY more of a difference in the world than the amount of crystals you own, time you spend in prayer/meditation, or witty & empowering insights and solutions you share on Instagram. Stop kidding yourself. If you aren’t part of the solution, you are part of the problem. None of us are innocent, but we are all capable of becoming real life heroes. The first thing you must do is go head to head with your own ignorance, and kill it. Even if the battle is exhausting. You can do it. The Universe is at your back.

Aside from shelter, food is most peoples biggest and most pressing expense. There is so much opportunity to affect not only the quality of food you eat, (which correlates directly to your health and genetic expression), but to affect national and global policy concerning environmental health and human rights in a positive way, simply by learning how to NOT fund the evil-doers with your hard-earned money.

#3) Proper eating is the fastest, easiest, BEST way to give the finger to the colonizer, honor your ancestry, your environment, and take back your health.

We are, quite literally, that which we eat. Our bodies are built directly from the substances we take into ourselves. And the elements. (More on that later. Suffice it to say that food is the magical expression of all the elements joined in together in live promoting harmony).

Once this meant we were Wild. Free. Vibrant. ALIVE. Now, for many, it means we are filled to the brim with lab conceived chemicals, unnatural colorings and flavorings, a laundry list of known carcinogenic substances which the FDA conveniently turns a blind eye to, and genetically modified “foods” whose long term effects on the human genome we know nothing about. We have become, as Pink Floyd would say “comfortably numb”. Or for many unfortunate folks- Uncomfortably numb.

Pause and take a moment to really consider the following: If we are LITERALLY formed and kept alive by what we eat, and if our energy and physical structure results directly from our food, (which is not fake news btw, but well-known scientific fact), would you rather eat a wild deer, who spent her life free, running through the forest, hiding, playing, mating, eating wild greens and forage, drinking live, free-flowing water, (that has hopefully not been tainted by human pollution), and was killed quickly and as humanely as possible during the hunt, whose spirit was then thanked, honored, and cherished, and whose body was used as a sacred source of food, clothing, tools, and shelter building material,….. or a cow, who was conceived via artificial insemination, born in a cage, immediately separated from her mother, spent her life in a concrete and metal box, knee deep in shit, shot up with bucketfuls of antibiotics, growth hormones, and who knows what else, was not fed what her body was designed to eat, was not allowed to move, run, play, or mate, or to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air, and was then killed at a slaughter house that stank of fear and death, where the cries of tortured animals greeted her upon arrival of her last day alive on Earth, and where she was then butchered cruelly, painfully, without compassion…which one would you rather take into your own body? How do you think each would affect you differently?

And we wonder why physical and mental health in America is decreasing and why more people, including young children, are sick with allergies, depression, chronic diseases and cancers than ever before, or why people (including our children) are flying off the handle left and right and thinking that shooting masses of innocent civilians is the best course of action…

Our ancestors were plugged directly into Nature through the food they grew, foraged, and hunted in their immediate local landscapes. There is no act more intimate, (except maybe sex), than eating. Than willingly taking another life forms’ body and essence (be it plant or animal) into the deepest bowls of our own bodies, and transmuting this being into the energy that sustains us physically, emotionally, and spiritually.  Native people knew this and were a PART OF the environment and part of a community that spanned across species.

Then, some white men come from a foreign land and take this all away. Prevent people from hunting. Force us into captivity and force us to farm THEIR food, which prevents us from moving in the natural, seasonal patterns we were designed to follow based on THOUSANDS OF YEARS of co-evolving in a mutual and intimate relationship with our unique and wonderfully diverse environment. By taking away our traditional food sources, we were cut off from Nature at the root.

This sets off a chain reaction of gross-imbalance and devastation which leaves North America reeling and from which we are still not recovered and currently deep within the process of reaping some of the larger and more devastating impacts we as a nation have sown.

Wildfires, floods, mudslides, water pollution, soil depletion, species extinction…none of this happened anywhere near to the extent it is occurring now. This is not because there are more people. This is because Native people knew, understood, and holistically managed their environments to a degree that most can only imagine, one which would bring the top environmental ‘scholars’ and permaculture enthusiasts to their knees in awe and appreciation. The environment was (IS) a living, breathing, FEELING entity which was truly loved, and thus, treated with awe and respect. It was celebrated. It was protected.

Learn about the region you live in. Who are the Natives? What did they eat? How did they get the bulk of their nutrition? Look at your own ancestry. Go back far enough and you will find you are from “Native” people as well. Go back further still and you’ll find out you’re actually black and your ancestry is African, but again, thats another topic for another time.

For now, try to zero in on what your known ancestors ate. Compare it to what was traditionally eaten in your region by the locals, (the real ones), and see where they meet. If there is no common ground between the local indigenous diet and that of your heritage, go with what makes the most sense to you and with what you enjoy the most. The key is to make sure it is organic, local, and seasonal. If we all did this, Eden would bloom mañana.

Subscribe to be sure you don’t miss Part II of Step I, which will explain in further detail, exactly HOW to change your relationship to food and take back control of your life.

Peace, Love, and Good Food, Always.

I Want YOU to Decolonize NOW!

B-b-but…whyyyyy??? you may be asking.

The United States of America is a failed experiment. While it may have enjoyed a brief moment in the sun, and continue to maintain status as the most “powerful” country in the world, one looks around and cannot help but ask; At what cost is this ‘power’ obtained, and is the benefit worth it?

Too high, and no.

To those still (loudly and obnoxiously) claiming ‘Merica to be the greatest country in the world, I ask you, the greatest in what?

Education. No.

Healthcare. Not even close.

Economic equality. Nope.

Gender equality. Ha! You wish.

Abundant natural beauty and resources. Well maybe. But anyone who has done a bit of traveling or has access to Pinterest knows that there is unique and breathtaking beauty to be found the world over. Yet we as a nation have raped, pillaged, plundered, and polluted our land, (which I will point out is not our land and belongs to no individual, group of individuals, or specific species, but is the life giver and sustainer that WE BELONG TO- not the other way around. To believe otherwise is to trust in a dangerous illusion). Everything in existence belongs to the Earth, to Nature. Yet we continue to not only violently abuse our homelands, but encroach upon and devastate the lands of neighboring countries near and far, exploiting and destroying for the monetary profits of a small group of individuals to the point we have become not a global leader or example, but a world bully. A dangerous laughingstock. The only thing we lead in is mass-shootings and mass-incarceration. Those are the facts. And this is your idea of success?

“What about security?” you say. “Quality of life?” Look around you. No, really- put down the phone and look around you. Take a moment to observe your fellow human beings. Do they look happy? Healthy? Vibrant, peaceful, radiating joy and love as Nature/God intended? Or is there a glazed and deadened look in their eyes? A tension and struggle in the way their movements?

One woman, @allisonserrao_ writes:

“It’s not just gun control that’s an issue here, it’s the mental health of America. You know it, I know it, the whole country knows it. We work our people to the ground, we live paycheck to paycheck, our family leave- forget about it, vacation time? What’s that? Cost of living, let’s not forget about the healthcare. [And I would like to add many of us can literally not afford to die…]

How about having a sexual predator as out f-ing president guys? That the leader of our country’s most famous slogan is “Grab em by the..” The rape culture that is now apparent in every corner of every news outlet and the PTSD we are putting our people through? What about our secretary of education being a complete imbecile? How about our president literally not believing in global warming. When it comes to our children do we honestly think these large scale things don’t trickle down into our everyday lives? On top of the nationwide issues our children do not get a break from the pressures of society, school, work, even their extra curricular activities become a job, there is no place of solace, and if there is, our children are not being taught how to use it. We as a people have ignored our human right to take care of ourselves and have created a culture and a nation full of sick humans. Go look in your nearest prison, count the mentally ill walking the streets without care, take a walk down the riverbed in my backyard to see the homeless…the only time we offer any real push services to help mental health and even physical health is when something bad has already taken place. This country has disabled its entire nation from being able to take care ourselves and our own. 18 [now 22] school shootings since the year has begun? It’s not just the guns people, its not just the f-ing guns.”

It is hard to deny the facts, (and perhaps harder to face the truth), the brutal reality of our situation is that we are a severely ill population, in both body and spirit. Our culture is one of arrogance, selfishness, and mental disease.

But stemming from what? How can we fix this if we do not know the cause, the root of the problem?

Aaahh but we do! It’s just a question of whether or not YOU are willing to face the truth, whether or not you really are able to admit your own personal ignorance, shame, guilt, responsibility, and where you have fallen short, and then take the necessary actions required to rebalance these areas and move on, move forward. As within, so without.

Lets take a look at the beginning. The beginning of this ‘great country’. The history we were taught in school would first lead one to envision kind and courageous blonde, blue-eyed families risking life and limb to make a go in a vast and wild wilderness, fighting off wolves, mountain lions, and the occasional barbaric ‘savage’ hell-bent on harassing women and children as they fled the oppressive rule of their dark and dreary homelands. Later, epic battles would be fought while yankee-doodle played in the background, fireworks exploded in the sky, and the glorious red-white-and-blue of our young and promising nations flag waved proudly over the battlefields where those brave young men fell like angels as their dutiful wives cried on the hills, heartbroken yet proud their men had died defending freedom and the glory of God. Through their blood and sacrifice, this great country was born.

Awww. What a cute story. Yet it is fantasy.

I do not discredit the hardships the colonists faced here, nor do I make light of the lives lost or the values they died defending, (some of those values at least). My purpose is not to mock or discredit the courage and bravery it took many men and women to make the United States into a country I feel fortunate to have been born into. However,  I am NOT willing to be naive about the reality of our nations beginning. And the reality is that this country was founded on the massacre of an entire population of human beings who had been living and evolving with the landscape for HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF YEARS! Your “American” ancestors decimated the villages, lands, traditions, languages, religions, and freedoms, of an entire continents existing and extensive population. The result its that we have lost the only source of valid ecological place-based knowledge (which had been carefully gathered, experienced, shared, preserved, crafted, refined, and passed on orally by the wisest village elders generation after generation after generation….over THOUSANDS OF YEARS!), and we are ALL suffering the consequences of such a loss.

Look at the increasing instances of fatal natural disasters such as wildfires, mudslides, sink-holes, and flash floods, all resulting largely from the mismanagement of the wild landscape. Look at the epidemic of mental illness (and if you can honestly tell me that most of the adults you know are NOT on some sort of anxiety medication or anti-depressants, I will be pleasantly surprised), all stemming from our systematic disconnect from Nature. Or at least our dumb unawareness of Her universal laws, (as one can never truly disconnect from Nature, being a part of nature herself).

Therein lies the root of the problem: Our disconnect from Nature.

We are wild creatures by birth, but have become “civilized”. Which is to say “colonized”. Which is to say domesticated.

We, my friends, are unwell in body, mind, and spirit, because we are free and wild beings, (which does not mean primitive, barbaric, unkind, or without a moral code), designed by the eons to live in intimate and intuitive harmony with our immediate surroundings, including its diverse and awe-inspiring array of living and non-living entities. Yet we have been domesticated and essentially enslaved by a system that cares not for love, happiness, health, and wellbeing, but rather on monetary profits, material gain, and the accumulation of power over others. We have been fed a lie of “survival of the fittest”, a myth which favors competition over collaboration, in order to keep us fearful and divided, so that we cannot see that which has really occurred is simply a new form of slavery. One in which a handful of elite have successfully made the rest of us dependent on them (global mass-corporations and big pharma companies), for everything from food and water, to shelter, warmth, healthcare, giving birth, and even raising our young.

Without the “comforts” of modern society, many of us would not survive, having been so cut off from our most basic ancestral survival skills, that we would have no idea what to do in the real world, that which lies beyond this artificial zoo we have created for ourselves. The world in which we are responsible for providing our own warmth, shelter, and protection from the elements and predators. The world where it is up to us, as individuals, families, and tribes, to locate, harvest, process, share, and enjoy our own food and water, the truest givers of life and health, where we heal our own illnesses, birth our own children, and manage our own birth control, as our predecessors did (successfully I might add), for thousands of years prior to the start of agriculture.

When these God-given skills are purposefully kept from us, when there are actual laws in place preventing us from practicing our Nature-based freedoms, we become exclusively dependent on a system which cares nothing for our well-being, only whether or not they can use us as either a producer or a consumer to increase their profit margin. The American dream is a hoax. And we have sacrificed our sovereignty on its behalf. The fact that the POTUS champions the extraction of more fossil fuels, more jobs, and thus more money, over the rapidly declining health of the planet and all her inhabitants, speaks volumes about how far we have missed the mark as a country and world leader.

What do you call it when one or both parents are forced to spend the majority of the day, the majority or the week, aka the majority OF THEIR LIVES!!!- away from their homes, families, and loved ones, (conveniently leaving the rearing of young to the corrupt agenda of the media, which has no qualms about brainwashing the innocent so they will grow into fearful, insecure, selfish individuals driven to purchase more and more without question..), so they can work hour after hour at a soul-crushing job, just to be able to afford housing, food, clothing, healthcare, and basic utilities? If not outright slavery, it reeks of indentured servitude.

From the moment we are born, and especially from the moment we enter the school system, we are being groomed to be good little robots who do what they are told and keep all the economic cogs running smoothly. And woe to the poor soul who dares to stray too far outside the socially accepted norms. Yet this system is severely unstable and unsustainable. If you can’t see that by now it is likely your people were completely domesticated several generations before your birth, or you suffer from a general lack of intelligence. Not necessarily your fault. The cultivation of the “sheep” mentality is one that has been carefully favored, preserved, and promoted by religions, patriarchy, and companies going back hundreds of years.

But we see it. We remember. We know how this country began. It was founded on genocide. On the mass-murder of the innocent indigenous. This was done by YOUR ancestors. By OUR ancestors, yet we can’t even admit and take responsibility for this founding fact, or the fact that the survivors of this holocaust continue to be oppressed, ignored, and degraded to this day. Nor are we able to admit the fact that after this cultural annihilation the country was grown with the ideals of white supremacy, crippled by the demonization of the sacred feminine, “colonized” on the bloodied backs of African slaves, and poisoned by the religious backed lie that Nature is a commodity, and not a living, breathing, conscious entity.

Our legacy is using religion as a tool to manipulate the masses, destroy the landscape, and dehumanize and persecute those whose  beliefs and perspectives stand in opposition of European Patriarchy. To be the largest catalyst in the global warming epidemic. To leave devastation in our wake wherever we go.

So now we have more or less identified the problem. There is absolutely nothing civilized about “civilization”. Agriculture is not, and has never been “progress”, (more on this another time, for those still left scratching their heads). Our current culture is damaging on both individual and global scales. But what is the point of griping about all of societies flaws if one can not imagine any sane solutions?  I offer those as well:

Take back your power. As an individual, a family, a tribe, a local community, a people.

A lover and companion of Nature, in all her sensual forms.

Accept your power and responsibility. Vote with your dollar, even if you have only one. If you are reading this, you have the ability to vote with your money. Every day. While your at it, learn to live without money. Yes. It is possible. The earth still spins, the tides still turn, the wolves still hunt and your lungs still pump oxygen in and out of your body whether or not your bank account is zeroed out or not.

Learn how to be a sovereign human being again. One who does not outsource their freedom, health, well-being, and ability to stay fed and safe to large unethical organizations. Learn that you don’t need a middle man or set religion in order to talk to God and experience unity and divinity. Discover through observation and silence that nature moves slowly, allows for periods of rest and recovery, and favors collaboration, harmony, and diversity, over competition, aggression, and monoculture.

Decolonize the following NOW:

More than anything- LEARN HOW TO BE HAPPY. Learn how to love and accept yourself completely, despite your inevitable shortcomings and imperfections. We all have them. It’s what makes life interesting. Do not be afraid of being wrong or failing. Be courageous and wise enough to change. You deserve it. You are capable. Follow your passions and burn any limiting or fear based belief systems you come into contact with to the ground. The ashes will nourish the next wave of new growth.

Remember, whether white, black, brown, red, yellow, or green, we ALL come from a tribal people. ALL of our ancestors at one point or another worshipped a divine Mother and lived in intimate co-existence with the plants, rocks, animals, spirits, and people who surrounded them. Your legacy and your ancestors legacy goes back so much further than the past 500 years…

I am not suggesting going back to the stone age, or living as nomads out of tipis and mud-lodges, (unless that sort of thing appeals to you. If so, hit me up!). I am suggesting we acknowledge that enough is enough, and that we know when to dismantle that which is not serving the Greatest Good and develop the willpower to do so, (like yesterday. No more lollygaggin!). That we look to the past not to dwell in it, but to harvest the wisdom contained within it, pair it with the knowledge we have gained with this failed experiment of capitalistic patriarchy, and gracefully move forward with heads held high into a new world story.

One does not need laws and religions to tell one how to be a “good” person, or how to behave in an acceptable manner. These are the inventions of a culture designed to control and assert power over any and all others. We, by our very creation and existence, are agents of love and harmony. We need only have the courage to remember, and to face our own reflections in all their hideous beauty.

A Message from Gaia:

What are your dreams made of? Who do you meet when you fall asleep at night? Is it within our control or at we at the mercy of the sleep gods and our own tricky subconscious? Perhaps a little of both.

I have always been a very vivid dreamer. My favorite ones are the ones where I catch a glimpse of something so much greater than myself. Where I meet beings who’s wise messages are from another time and place, yet upon waking, are discovered to be oh so relevant to my life.

This is why I keep a dream journal. Here is one of the most powerful messages I have ever received, delivered via a letter in a dream. It was a letter from Gaia Herself. In my dream it was circulating amongst humanity. It was not a viral internet thing, but rather being left on windshields, stuffed into books and magazines at book stores, folded into the shelves at the market. It was making some people very angry. And others very hopeful.
When I read the letter in my dream which I came upon by finding it taped to a pump at the gas station, of all places, my dream self instantly knew I was dreaming and that this was a message I wanted to take back with me. Upon waking I rushed to copy it, struggling to get down all the points and messages before they evaporated into the ether like mists dissolving with the kiss of the morning sun. So this may not be verbatim, but as many would argue, it is only the speakings of my own subconscious, so it’s probably Ok if it’s not a word for word copy of the ‘original’. I believe its pretty damn close, as far as I can remember. So here it is, for your entertainment and consideration, a message from the Gaia, the Earth Mother, given in a dream:

“The time is now upon us.

The pendulum is reaching its climax, on the cusp of swinging the other way.

We have sat back. We have watched from in the shadows where we were told to go. We hunkered down and rested, waited, hibernated, one eye closed and always on the dark, the other open and ever vigilant to the world as we blended seamlessly into the landscape.

We thought: You think you can do it better? You think male is stronger than female? You think man knows better than God? You think Nature is here for YOU? For YOUR disposal and enjoyment? Ok. Prove to us how right you are.

We are tired. Tired of fighting you. Tired of resisting you, unruly child. We will rest. We will pass the torch. Lets see what you can do.

For thousands of years we have watched you now. Watched you make a mockery out of life. Watched you fall deeper into your own lies and insanity. To the point you named your monster “civilization” and called it progress. You glorified destruction, domestication, enslavement. And you still do.

And we have had enough. You have taken things too far. We have been silent for too long.
Now you’ve woken the Mother. She is angry. She is sick and furious and wounded- and woe to those who thoughtlessly provoke a sick and wounded wild animal. There is no creature alive more wild and powerful than Mother Nature. She is rising up from the depths like a sleeping dragon. She is calling her children back to her. And you are either with us or against us.

It has not to do with politics. Politics are useless, antiquated, man-made rituals that are no longer serving the greater good of anything. This is beyond politics.

It is beyond religion. There is no religion. There is only THIS. Only you and I. And we are one and the same.

This is not about nationalities. Nations too will be a thing of the past. A curious practice of our forefathers whose feeble minds we can hardly understand in their base limitations.

That is why you either feel it in your bones, a deep and constant humming, disturbing at first in its unfamiliarity, yet gradually becoming a part of you. A soothing vibration, a feeling of power. Muscles gathering with grace and precision, so much force, waiting with delicious anticipation to spring forth to secure the kill that will enable life. You feel it and are empowered. you are not afraid, because you hear my words. You understand my language.

Or you are against us. Which means you are filled with unhappiness. You are disconnected. Your mind is weak. You divide that which needs to be united. You conquer that which needs to be befriended. Your ego has run rampant and allowed fear to spread like a cancer through your being. And many of you are beyond saving. Fear is the root of this problem. No matter which way you look at it. If you have not heard The Calling, if you cannot see the angels or her the trumpets ringing out from the heavens it is only because fear is keeping you from what is yours by birthright: A relationship with ME- God/dess, All that is. Fear is keeping you from yourself. And there is not much I have to say to you except “Get ready”. It is going to be a difficult transition for you. Filled with pain, chaos, and resistance. All because of fear. And when at last you fall bruised, battered, and bleeding at my feet, I will lift you up and you will be healed. All pain and anguish will instantly be a distant and only vaguely unpleasant memory. But you will look back and see that is was all needless. It was all for nothing.

At this point it will not matter to you, all will be well, and you will know the truth for yourself. But it matters to you now. What is coming you must endure whether you wish to or not. It is up to you whether you ride the wave or let it crush you.

And now I speak to you, my children:

Daughters- This is your time. This is why you were born into this life. This is what you have trained for, lifetime after lifetime. This is what I have prepared you for. You have done the work. You know yourselves. You know me. Our relationship has been carefully cultivated and tended within the garden of your heart. Taking shape like a butterfly hidden within the chrysalis. Now we are called forth, to spread our wings and fly. Look at your sisters and love them. They are an extension of you. There is no room for jealousy, competition, or pettiness in the new world. These traits will vanish with along with the end of days. They will fall with patriarchy. They will decay in the ground and give rise to a new understanding and connection among us. WE are the future. WE are unstoppable. We know this. And we know we have had enough.  We are the gardeners who are charged with restoring our Eden, we are the bridge between heaven and Earth.

Sons- You know who you are, and bless you, for you are a rare breed of man. A true breed. And I love you. The world needs your Divine Masculinity as much as it needs the Sacred Feminine. You are the balance. You are the protection. You are the champion ready and willing to lay down his life in order to protect those who cannot protect themselves. You do this with love and courage, for you know me, and in my grace, there is nothing you fear, nothing to fear.

Now YOU will be tested as well. It is not just the women who will be called to arms, it is you. You will need to have the strength to break the barriers that civilization has built all around you in an attempt to control your awesome, formidable, enticing, sexual, tender, yet shamelessly ruthless, power. You will succeed. Your masculinity cannot be contained within a domesticated society like a wild animal in a zoo. You are more than they have told you you are. You are man. You are the son of God. You are the Champion of the Goddess, and the Lover to the Sorceress. What you bring, we CANNOT do without.

To All Humanity- You are a part of me. Cells of my body. Thought forms in my mind. There is nothing about you separate from me. You are God, you are Goddess. Your purpose is to ensure my health, to allow for my continued and infinite evolution. That is why I created you. Your job is to allow me to bring awareness to myself, through your own limited, individual, and largely physical, perspectives. But together….do you know what you have shown me???

Now you have a choice. Just as you always have and always will.

Option 1:

You can bid your time on this realm adieu, and I will continue to exist and blossom without the form of human species. For you as a species have become a cancer. A disease. A threat to life and well-being. You, as a species have created massive imbalance, and you know how I handle imbalance. You know how I deal with illness and disease. Open your eyes and look around. I will tell you how I deal with disease:

I heal it from within, or eradicate it from without. If there is a virus I create the antibodies. If there is infection I create white blood cells.  If there are too many rabbits, I create more foxes, too many deer, I birth more wolves. Too much water, I bring drought, too much heat, prepare for an ice age.

Option 2: Evolve into the Beings I intend you to be; Healers and creators. Alchemists. Important players in the Natural Landscape. Ambassadors between species. Conduits between the material and spirit realms. Writers of a new World Myth. Unique shimmering points of GOD CONSCIOUSNESS within the mind of THE ALL.

Is it any wonder that some of you are being born more sensitive? More empathetic? More psychic? More magical and more powerful? No. This is nothing to be alarmed about. You are the healing antibodies. YOU are the white blood cells.

Or you are the cancer. You are the sheep, who continue bleating even as they follow the rest of the herd over the cliff edge to their doom.

Or you are the wolves.

To The Wolves-

This IS a call to arms, make no mistake about that. But this is not your fathers call to arms. It is your mothers. Even the father calls out to his mother on his deathbed, just as he did at birth. Do not forget.

I know you’ve felt the ripple of fear that proceeds any big change. It is a deeply ingrained habit of facing the unknown. I also know you have risen above it. My children, I am so proud of you.

I know you see the patterns. I know you read the signs. Your empire is falling. The world as you know it is crumbling. You can feel the earth tremble as Kali approaches, you have drawn The Tower from the deck and stand waiting and ready for all that it heralds. Do not loose sight of the fact that if we want to bring paradise to earth once and for all, we must let go of all past habits and patterns.  We must destroy that which no longer serves in order to make room for new growth.

Those of you who are advanced enough on the path know that there is a rhythm and cycle to everything. Work with it. Not against it. Change by working with the flow, not by trying to reverse it. remember reality is changed by creation more than my destruction. There is no need for a bloody fall, and terrible descent, just because this is the history you have written for yourselves.

Re-write it. That is your power. Imagination and infinite potential are my gifts to you and your allies in the battle to come.
This is a revolution. It is a war. But it is not the one you think and we cannot fight this war the ways wars have been fought in the past. We are at a point where the truth of this is becoming blazingly clear. The true war is against me, It is not within your political systems or your man-made ideals and ideas. But we do need to work from within. The true war is between what is being called civilization ….vs. the Wild. We are all born wild by Nature. Nature is Wild, and it has been under attack for the past 10,000 years. This is an ancient battle, by your standards, and many of you have forgotten what we are truly fighting for. You have lost sight of the fact there need not be a fight.

The more aggressive, the more fiery and passionate we become, the more we will be resisted, hated, killed.

We need to be gentle. Loving. Infiltrate the heart of the enemy. Show them there is another way. A more fulfilling, liberating, invigorating, joy filled, sustainable, health promoting way to live. A way to just BE, and to exist in peace, joy, connection.

We need to become alchemists. LEARN ALCHEMY. Learn to transmute. It is your only hope.

Appeal to the heart, not just the mind.

And if you are wanting to “fight” in my name, here are some ways how:

Educate yourselves.

Question everything.

Think for yourself, develop an independent mind.

Pray. Talk to me. And then learn to listen. Meditate. Meditate. Meditate. MEDITATE.

Focus on yourself(ME) first, your family second, your local community third . If you achieve mastery (meaning true harmonious balance, not dominance), of these three spheres the rest of the world will fall easily into place.

Eat local. Eat seasonal. This is one of the biggest ways to affect positive change, be it political or otherwise. Trust me. Or research it for yourself. Your body and health will thank you. You will be happier, more energetic, and vibrant.

CHANGE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR BODY. It is perfect. It is self healing. It is a physical manifestation of Spirit. It is a temple of the Soul. Treat it and care for it as such. There is nothing wrong with, shameful, or embarrassing about your body. It is art. I created it.

Your sex culture needs a drastic overhaul. Again, there is nothing shameful, sinful, or embarrassing about sex. Sex is pleasure, bliss, love, connection, life force. Sex Energy is creative energy. there is really only one kind of energy. embrace it. Its all there is. Grow up about it and stop behaving like prepubescent children, or live a doomed life of never feeling at home in your skin. Your choice. Always- your choice.

Remember that despite the heaviness of what is at stake during these times, I am here, and all is well. You are ok, you are not alone. Safety is an illusion but there is also nothing you need fear. You have a duty and responsibility to add balance and harmony to the world. That is why you are here, it is what you signed up for, but part of that includes allowing yourself to BE HAPPY. To give and receive love. To feel grateful and to not be weighed down with fear, worry, or stress. This is your truest mission. Your Goddess given job is to find your pleasure, find that thing that makes your heart sing and brings your soul to life, and pursue it. Use it as your guide and compass. You were designed to feel infinite pleasure. To always be inspired and to be inspiring. You are my dreams made manifest. You walk through my imagination, and together we create reality. I beg you, whoever you are, be that, wholeheartedly. You matter.

I love you my children. ALL of you. for you ARE me. And I love myself. So this is where I ask you to begin. Love yourself. All of you. Look within until you find me. I am waiting, I will not be hard to locate. And once you love yourself completely, love each other fiercely. For this is why we are. I am LOVE. Look within, and see.

—The Great Mother

5 Easy Writing Practices That Will Improve Your Life

Not Just Your Writing Skills

  1. Dream Journaling- Have you heard of it? If you consider yourself even a bit on the mystical side, I am sure you have. While it can take some times to get used to this habit, I fully believe it is one worth cultivating. Really, it’s quite simple: Get yourself a pretty notebook or journal you adore and just can’t wait to run your hands over each morning. Get a pen to match. Set both on your bedside table or somewhere within easy reach upon waking. Remember, sometimes you may wake from a dream you’d like to record at a unusual hour of the morning or night, and stumbling around in the dark or pre-dawn haze searching for your instruments is a sure way to loose all the glorious details of your dream state mind, so make sure they are easily accessible. When you wake in the morning, before anything else, record everything you can remember about the dreams you had that night. And I do mean EVERYTHING. Colors, characters, sights, sounds, activities…they all may seem silly and nonsensical as you write them out with your rational mind, but I assure you there is magic hidden there. You will find that as you do this more regularly, the ease with which you can remember your dreams will greatly improve. How does this improve your life? Dream journalling isa surefire way to tap into and develop a dialogue with your subconscious. Your subconscious can be either your greatest ally or your worst enemy, depending on the relationship you’ve cultivated with it. As with any relationship being able to be fully present and to listen to the other party is vital. By recording your dreams you are sending a powerful message to your subconscious that 1) You are here, 2) You are listening. Once this message has been internalized, the subconscious flood-gates tend to burst open with new insights and information about the world and your place in it because, hey! now you’re actually paying attention and your subconscious knows it! No one, (including your own Self), wants to converse with and give information to an individual who completely ignores them and all their messages, pretending like they don’t even exist! This is often how we treat our dream guides. Now dreams and dream guides don’t often give straightforward information. Usually, the message or lesson is delivered with archetypical characters, situations, and symbols, and this is why it is so vital to write down every dream detail you can remember. What may seem like nonsense now may suddenly reveal itself to be key in understanding a solution to a pesky problem or the spark that ignites a new creative fire in your soul. Conversations or interactions you have with dream beings may seem upon waking, unforgettable, but you will find, to your great sorrow, that the details of these interactions will bleed from your mind like water through cupped hands and before you know it you will be left with but a few drops where there was once a bubbling spring. Preserve that wellspring! Write it down!hannah-olinger-549282-unsplash
  2. Gratitude List- Alright guys I know you’ve heard of this one! Everyone from Oprah to the Dali Llama to your therapist recommends it. But do you actually DO it? It is so simple, and so much fun! It is the easiest way to feel better about your life instantly, no matter what you’ve got going on. True, there are some periods in our lives that for whatever reason are just super challenging and down-right suck, but I have found that during these times, even writing things down like: I’ve got food to eat and clean water to drink. My children are safe, happy, and healthy. We have a roof over our heads and cloths to shield us from the elements. I have use of all my senses…. simple things like this that many of us tend to take for granted can really put things into perspective when we take note of them and appreciate how fortunate we are to enjoy such luxuries. There are actually quite a lot of people in the world who are no so privileged, and when I find myself in a grouchy, negative slump, it always helps to pause and reflect on just how much abundance I am surrounded by and how fortunate I really am. Do you have a friends or a friends you can always count on no matter what? Write it down. A mother and/or father who tell you they love you, (and more importantly, show you they love you? Write it down. Are you healthy? Are you literate? Do you have internet? List them. If you are really stuck, start with, “I woke up this morning and my lungs still work. How delicious this air is!” Seriously. If you begin the day with dream journaling, as mentioned above, why not make a habit out of ending the day with a gratitude list in which you take stock of all the blessing that were bestowed upon you this day? Keeping a gratitude journal has been proven time and time again to rewire your brain to seek out the positive, find the silver lining, and unearth the multitude of life little (and not so little) gems that many folks miss while immersed in the rat-race. Slow down, breathe, be grateful. This advice has never done anyone wrong. You can start simply; make it a goal to list 3-5 things each night before you turn in. Soon you may find that you want to extend your lists, and that they easily consume several pages at a time before you are through. You will fall asleep with a smile on your face and a receptive subconscious for all the wonderful messages your dream guides are waiting to deliver 😉

I recommend getting another journal specifically designated for your gratitude lists. But I will       admit, I am a woman who doesn’t believe its possible to have too many journals/notebooks on hand. In order to keep the stacks somewhat manageable for myself I have been known to use one notebook as both Dream Diary and Gratitude Journal. I will use the beginning normally, to catalogue my dreams, and work backwards from the back of the journal, to create my gratitude lists until they meet somewhere in the middle. This way, both are on hand and easily accessible to me first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I definitely recommend doing this by hand. While I of course adore technology that allows writers to live, thrive, and survive in the modern world, digital list making just does not allow for the sensual, kinetic experience and the thoughtful awareness it brings to the task at hand. Plus we all know that screen time before bedtime is a bad idea right? Riiiiight???joao-silas-475685-unsplash

3) Nature Journaling- I love love loooooove nature journalling. There is so much to be gained. So many ways this writing practice adds sparkle to your every day. This is why I make it a point to do this AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Preferably every day, at least once a day, for at least 30mins. But don’t be too hard on yourself. If all you can realistically manage is once a week for 10mins, start there. You may find that as you begin to reap the benefits you suddenly think of ways to carve out more time for this delightful practice. What are the benefits anyways? And how is it done? Simple. Just do what naturalists everywhere have always done: Step 1) Get out in Nature. Step 2) Observe Nature. Step 3) Record your observations Step 4) Take note of how wise you are becoming and how you now fully understand that Mother Nature really is our greatest teacher.

The key here is to be able to be still and silent enough to really observe. This can be surprisingly difficult for many of us who are used to operating in “Go, Go, Go” mode, those of us who tend to glorify “busy”, which is a prevalent theme in our culture. Remember what Rumi says: “The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.” There is no greater symphony than the one produced by Nature. Allow yourself to just BE. Even before you start writing. Give your self sufficient time to become the empty chalice into which Nature will pour her secret wisdoms. THIS IS YOUR DESTINY!!!! jk. sorta…

Pay attention to detail and record everything you can think of, not just the sights, (although you may want to adopt the practice of sketching your surroundings as well!). What smells surround you? What do you hear? What direction in the wind blowing and what does it feel like? Where is the sun in the sky? What is going on right there under your feet? What is the furthest thing you can observe. Look high, low, near, far, over, under, but do so in the spirit of open receptiveness and discovery. So back to what life changing benefits are to be gained. I believe too many to list, but here are a few of the most immediately noticeable:

Enhanced senses. Ever hear the saying ‘Use it or loose it.”? Well—it’s true. If you live in a city where the noise never stops, work in an environment where the artificial lighting never changes and you are not required to look further than the screen in front of you, the walls of your house, or the bumper of the car in front of you, chances are some of your senses have atrophied from lack of use. Think of your senses like muscles. They may be weak and deteriorated at this point, but with a little practice, their strength and sharpness will come flying back joyously. Remember, our senses have been honed by hundreds of thousands of year of human evolution. They are designed to work optimally for us to ensure our survival. They want to, and given half a chance, they will explode with their sensitivity and perceptiveness. This means that suddenly, you are experiencing the world in High Definition, perhaps for the first time in a long time. The world literally shimmers, the caress of the breeze feels like velvet, and the kiss of the sun like a long awaited lovers lips against your exposed skin. It’s not a bad way to go about your day.

A deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all things in existence. This is huge. And a little difficult to explain to those who have not yet started on this path. Yet if you allow yourself to become truly still and observant, in body and mind, it is impossible to miss the intimate relationship all beings share on this earth. You watch this unfold right before your very eyes. And it is not limited to people and animals. Plants, minerals, insects, seasons, the elements, geographical features… all of these forms are in constant and more often than not, collaborative communication with one another. It seems to be only us humans who have taken ourselves out of the convo. Rude. We’ve been acting like we are the only ones worth listening to, and whats more, the only ones with anything important to say. In doing so, within a few short generations, we have forgotten how to listen altogether. If you’ve removed yourself from a conversation and want to rejoin it, it would help if you take some time to quietly listen to what the other speakers are saying before you jump in with your own ideas and opinions. Carry this same attitude with you as you Nature Journal. Don’t head out with a specific goal or agenda in mind. Do not try to project your ego and aspirations onto the landscape. Your only mission is to be the invisible observer. The record keeper for the beings most of our species won’t even acknowledge have souls/feelings. Once you begin doing this, you will understand your own place in the grand scheme of things so much better, and this is a very liberating feeling.

Psychic Powers and an almost Infallible knowledge of what is happening in your environment here and now. Two words. Bird Language. Learn it. Love it. Live it. I mean, you might as well if you are going to be spending any significant amount of time in Nature to keep your writing skills sharp and enhance your sensual capacity. While you may or may not suddenly develop the power to read minds as a result, you most certainly will develop a proficiency in reading the signs and sounds of natures feathered friends to the degree that you will be able to fool your friends and family into thinking you are the new Ms. Cleo. They will be astounded to here you say, “There is a feral cat coming this way.” Minutes before it is sighted at your fence line or “There is a group of hikers heading towards us” with more than enough time to pull all your cloths back on before your skinny dip session is interrupted. The cliff notes version is to basically do your regular nature observations, but with paying special attention to observing and recording the sounds and behaviors of any birds within the vicinity, which there are almost always sure to be. If you don’t see or hear any initially, it is most likely because you scared them away with your loud, blundering, human intrusion. But never fear, most birds will return to business as usual with 10-15 minutes after determining you pose no immediate threat to them. You can save yourself time and the birds energy however, if you learn to move through nature slowly, softly, and quietly. Take a few moment to acquaint yourself with the practice of Shinrin-Yoku, also known as ‘forest bathing’, and learn how to ‘fox-walk’. When it comes to bird language, you cannot pass up reading “What the Robin Knows”, by Jon Young. Plus, any writer knows it is equally important to read, and read often. Make it worth your while.

Some other works which speak loudly about the wonders of Nature Journaling and finding a “sit-spot” are “Dawn Again”, by Doniga Markegard, “The Science & Art of Tracking”, by Tom Brown Jr., and “A Witch Alone”, by Marian Green.

4) “Spirit Writing”– I do this a LOT. I also call it “Dear Abbey” writing for myself. Basically, whenever I am confronted with a tricky problem or challenge, I write it down in my journal as if I were writing into an advice column. I get it all off my chest and down onto the paper in front of me. This step in and of itself is often massively relieving. I then light a candle or incense, or both, take a few deep, grounding breaths, and read over my letter as if I were THE Dearest of Abbeys. I look at what I have written with a completely detached and objective mind-frame, and then I pen a response. What often happens is that I often find myself crossing the threshold into something like ‘automatic writing’, where the words are coming from a place beyond my mind. It is usually a female, goddess-type, mentors voice I hear, and my pen flies in attempts to capture in written word all the insightful information coming through. Something about this process has allowed me and many others I have shared it with to access a direct line to the Higher Self. This is life enhancing because your Higher Self is always looking out for you and always has your best interest at heart, unlike the Ego which tends to dominate most of our waking mental activity and can be, well….somewhat self-sabotaging at times.

5) Love-Letters to yourself– Maybe this is a woman thing, a mother thing, or just a human thing, but I have experienced that females, and especially the mothers I know (myself being no exception), tend to be ridiculously hard on themselves. I mean RIDICULOUSLY HARD! We are often our own harshest critics, riddled with guilt about not being good enough, pretty, or young enough, not doing enough, being productive enough, or generally feeling like we just aren’t enough. You can pick your poison as to what characteristic you apply it too but it is a poison most of us have tasted and continue to sip on from time to time, even when we know better. Let’s go easy on ourselves shall we? And remember that we grew up in a culture that is hell bent on making us believe we are not enough in X, Y, or Z, in order that they might sell us something that will somehow, suddenly, make us good enough according to our perverted societal standards. Well I say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Fuck you, European Patriarchy and your soul-crushing, earth-destroying ideals! I don’t need your concealer, your wonder-bras, your sexy SUV’s, your newest diet fad or fashion must haves, in order to love myself. And I’m gonna prove it right here and now by writing myself a letter about all the ways I rock and all the reasons I am proud of the person I am. And how, you might ask, does this improve your quality of life? Well for one, it feels good to give the finger to “the man”, which I feel I do each time I am strong enough to resist the medias attempts to make me feel small, weak, broken, damaged, and afraid. I know that focusing on all the things I like/love about myself is exactly what big corporations and greedy companies DON’T want me doing, and I take a wicked delight in doing exactly the opposite of what they want me to be doing, which is absorbing the message of “you are not good enough as you are”. Secondly, it feels just as good to treat myself to some heartfelt, loving, healing, sentiments as it does to tell consumer culture to stick it where the sun don’t shine. Both facets of this practice just feel good. There is an art to saying ‘fuck off’ and ‘I love you’ to the right entities. YOU are always deserving of love, especially from yourself. So indulge yourself, including your ego a bit. Furthermore, how can you expect another to love and treat you right if you don’t even know how to do this for yourself? The relationship with yourself is the single most important one you will ever have in this life. So treat yourself right, like your own best-friend or most cherished lover. Gooey love notes included.

What are some of your favorite ways to keep that pen or pencil moving and how have they enhanced your life? Share your ideas in the comments, I am always on the look out for more inspiration!

How To Raise Your Kids Differently

A Letter to a Childless Friend:

A friend once asked me how I planned on raising my children differently from the way I was raised. I thought it was one of the best questions I have ever been asked. It really made me think, and the essence of it lingered in my mind long after the conversation had ended.

I felt as if I had been caught unprepared somehow. Like I had given an answer but it had been somehow incomplete. I don’t even remember what my response was in the moment, but apparently I came home and *gasp* WROTE about it! which I am now rediscovering in my archives. Here is my written response to her, which I cannot honestly remember if I ever sent.

” You asked what I plan on doing differently when it comes to raising my children. I feel like there’s sooooo much lol. I said education, the calendar (more meaningful/pagan celebrations), & support in their sexual development. Those are the three biggies that come to mind first. But I’ve been thinking about it all night and was still dwelling on it this morning when it occurred to me that there are a few other really big “Biggies” that I missed. Since you asked, I figured I would go ahead and write them out, since that is how I process things, and I think it is one of the most important questions I have ever been asked. Thank that you for recognizing the importance of it.

I also want to make myself accountable (maybe “accountable” is the wrong word. Maybe “witnessed” is better…..) to someone besides myself and Andrew. I think sometimes I am too hard on myself (and him when it comes down to it), and that sometimes I am too sensitive when it comes to differences in our parenting techniques, so I would sorta relish the kind of objective witnessing you can provide because I can tell you are one of the rare types of human that has an independent (and appreciatively critical) mind. You’re like a human unicorn. Anywho, in a nutshell ;

  1. Vitality- I want to teach them how to care for themselves, body mind and spirit. How to eat and rest properly. Where to find inspiration. How to listen to their bodies. How to be their own greatest caretaker. the IMPORTANCE of developing a healthy relationship with their inner and outer environment, if that makes sense?
  2. Emotions- This is HUGE for me! I only recently had this lightbulb go off. I want to teach them how to relate to their emotions in a healthy, beneficial way, and how to not be afraid or embarrassed to express them.
  3. Connection- How to form the kinds of relationships that will nurture their spirits and help their souls evolve.
  4. Community- The importance of giving back. The mutual satisfaction of being a valuable and contributing member of your neighborhood.
  5. Presence- Another biggie. Maybe the biggest for me right now actually. Or at least the most difficult. The ability to just BE. And the importance of it. How to meditate. How to breathe properly. How to expand the senses.
  6. Personal Sovereignty- I want to teach them how not just how to survive in the world, but how to THRIVE, simply by being who they are meant to be. I have no idea how to do this, and I have no idea who they are going to grow into. I hope I can keep my ego out of it and give them the room, respect, and recognition they need in order to blossom into their full potentials.

There is this book I have on my kindle called “Riding Between the Worlds” that you can borrow if you are interested, it is about the mystical healing powers of horses and how they can aid one on his or her path to self discovery. You mentioned that you feel really drawn to animals, so I wanted to mention what has been pulling at my heartstrings lately to see if any of it resonates with you:

I think humanity needs a new myth for itself. A new story. I think we need to start spreading and internalizing a new purpose for ourselves. That purpose being- We are the ambassadors between the human race and the other life forms we share the planet with. Including plants and animals. I think it is vital for our survival as a species that we start recognizing, and then treating the other living creatures we inhabit this planet with, as our equals. This is more radical than it initially sounds, but I do actually believe it is true, (acting in accordance to this belief of course can get much more tricky), and I think that all the other species we live so intimately with are also beginning to evolve at a more rapid rate and expand their own levels of consciousness as well. As humans, our job is to be gentle guides and translators, so that this new golden age can be ushered in with understanding and harmony rather than destruction and chaos…” –end letter.

Right now I am trying to figure it out for myself, so that I have some sound experience to base any advise I give them off of. Currently, I think the best thing is to pursue those things that make your heart sing at all cost. The tricky part is getting clear on what those things are. I tend to keep one of two questions in the back of my mind. One is “If I don’t wake up tomorrow morning, or if something tragic happens to me or someone I love today, will I have any regrets? Will I be happy with how I chose to live this day?” The other is the one I asked you, “What would I be most excited to wake up for tomorrow?” For me this involves freedom. a loose schedule revolving around eating delicious, healthy, homegrown food, and caring for my family, animals included. Lots of horse rides. Camping. Exploring. Crafting. Reading. Swimming. Just LIVING in harmony with the seasons and stuff and having a ton of fucking fun with the people I love in the process. So I ask myself how I can make this possible. I’m not 100% sure. yet. But I see the ideas crystallizing (weed reference NOT intended haha) and I actually feel like I’ve gotten pretty good at this manifestation stuff cuz i mean…i really do continue to receive everything my little heart aches for. Its amazing! I feel so blessed!

I still agree with my past self. If you want to raise your children differently first and foremost take it upon yourself as your right, duty, honor, privilege, and responsibility….to be the greatest educator in their schooling. Stop handing over that most sacred of tasks to outside authority. YOU decide what is really worth knowing and learning in life, not a standardized government mandate of some sort. And listen to your children. Even the very young ones. Be their greatest advocate. What do they want to learn? What are they hungry and eager for? If they are anything like mine, the answer is EVERYTHING! So the possibilities are really endless. What do they love? What do they want to understand more fully? Give them more of that! Let them follow their passions and learn to follow yours.

If you want to teach your children differently from the masses, consider incorporating some of the above six ideas into your lesson plans and be sure to take lots of notes about the process and how your children respond. Post them in the comments, I would love to hear of your experiences! Also please share the ways you are raising, or plan to raise, your real or imaginary children differently from the western standardized model, a model that I believe we are seeing some serious repercussions from, the result of  unquestioningly accepting “the way things are and have been”,  for far too many generations now.
